Instagram Integration

Integrating Instagram with LinkAI allows your custom agent to communicate directly with customers via your Instagram pages. This integration also enables you to take over the conversation whenever you want and communicate with users yourself through Instagram’s direct messaging. It provides a seamless and efficient way to handle inquiries and automate responses, while giving you the freedom to interact with your customers whenever you choose.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Instagram, you’ll need:

Instagram Professional Account

Convert your personal account to a Professional (Business or Creator) account

Facebook Page

A Facebook Page connected to your Instagram account

Enable Message Access

Open Instagram Settings

Navigate to your Instagram Professional Account settings

Access Message Controls

Under ‘How others can interact with you’, click on Messages and story replies

Enable Message Access

Go to Message controls > Allow Access to Messages

Integration Steps

Navigate to Your Agent

Go to your LinkAI dashboard and select the agent you want to connect

Access Integrations

Navigate to Connect > Integrations

Connect Instagram

Click on Connect then I understand on the Instagram integration card

Continue Setup

Click on Continue to proceed with the integration

Login to Instagram

Click Get Started to login to Instagram. This will allow you to connect your Professional Account.

Authenticate

Login to Instagram with your account credentials

Select Business

Choose the businesses affiliated with your Instagram page. If you have no business, select Opt in all current and future businesses.

Choose Facebook Page

Select the Facebook Page(s) linked to your Instagram account

Select Instagram Pages

Choose the Instagram page(s) you want to integrate with LinkAI

Save Configuration

Click Save to complete the integration

Verify Integration

Your pages should be integrated successfully. Click on Manage to see all connected pages.

You can add more pages or delete existing ones from the manage page

Human Takeover Feature

The human takeover feature allows you to take control of any conversation and chat with users yourself. It works on a conversation level, meaning you can choose specific conversations to handle personally.

How to Enable Human Takeover

Navigate to Activity

Go to Activity either through the Navbar or through the Instagram dashboard

Filter Instagram Chats

In the Chat logs section, filter to show only Instagram chats

Click Takeover Icon

Click the human takeover icon next to the conversation you want to control

Chat Manually

You can now respond to the customer directly. The AI will stop responding to this conversation.

Restore AI Access

Click the icon again to restore access to the agent
Note: Some conversations may not have the human takeover icon if you’ve deleted a page from the integrations dashboard. You’ll still have access to conversations in chat logs, but the takeover feature won’t be available since the integration was deleted.Be careful when deleting pages from the Instagram dashboard, as this will affect the takeover feature.

Multiple Agents for Different Pages

With LinkAI’s Instagram integration, you can connect different agents to various pages. This allows multiple agents to manage different Instagram accounts with specialized interactions for each.

How to Connect Different Agents

Access Manage Page

After connecting your first page(s), navigate to Activity > Integrations > Manage

Delete Page (If Reassigning)

If you want to connect another agent to an already connected page, click Manage, then delete the page

Navigate to New Agent

Go to the agent you want to integrate with the deleted page

Reinitialize Integration

Follow the integration steps again to connect the page to the new agent
Important: If you deleted an agent, it will be selected in the integration steps. Don’t deselect any agent you want to stay connected to Instagram or Facebook integrations on LinkAI, as deselecting will disable that agent.

Best Practices

Respond within minutes to maintain high engagement. Instagram users expect fast responses.
Use images and product photos in responses when relevant. Instagram is a visual platform.
Reference the user’s profile or previous interactions to create a personal connection.
Include clear next steps: “Shop now”, “Book a consultation”, “Learn more”
Respond to story replies promptly to capitalize on high-intent engagement.
Use Instagram Shopping features to tag products in messages when applicable.

Troubleshooting

Integration Fails

  • Ensure you have a Professional Account (not personal)
  • Verify your Facebook Page is connected to Instagram
  • Check that message access is enabled in Instagram settings
  • Confirm you have admin access to both Instagram and Facebook Page

Agent Not Responding

  • Verify the integration is still active in LinkAI dashboard
  • Check that the agent is enabled
  • Ensure you haven’t hit Instagram’s message limits
  • Review agent logs for any errors

Human Takeover Not Available

  • Check if the page was deleted and re-added (this breaks takeover)
  • Verify the integration is still connected
  • Ensure you’re viewing the correct agent’s conversations

Instagram Messaging Limits

Instagram has rate limits to prevent spam:
  • New accounts - Limited messages per day initially
  • Established accounts - Higher limits based on account age and engagement
  • Quality score - Accounts with high block/report rates may be restricted
LinkAI automatically manages these limits to ensure compliance.
